Born free to be anything you want to be
I took the test for both my son Aarya and daughter Maira
Aarya’s test was called IWill and divided into 2 portions under Interest and Aptitude. The former covered 60 statements while the latter covered 40. The final analysis was emailed to me with login details to a Personalized Kid-o-scope account. There was also a comprehensive 11-page in-depth PDF report. That covered his Psychological background and Interest Assessment scoring. There were tips on how to focus and succeed. Kidoscope gave expert tips for parents as well.
Maira’s report was a shorter 8-page one and termed ICan since she is much younger. It focused on her social behavior, identity, Cognitive ability and her needs. But more importantly, it was tailor-made to her characteristics.
I earlier felt that tests to map your potential were cumbersome and expensive. They require you to go to specified centers for taking them. But this was a great experience.
Aptitude before expectations
A few days back, I took an aptitude test powered by Aviva kidoscope for my kids, which was a sheer eye opener. Simple questions that you need to answer based on the child’s gender and age, and you have a result that will sail you through many terrains in parenting. The result gives you an analysis of the areas of strength and weakness of your child in a rather comprehensive manner. This is immensely helpful in bringing out the best in the child in a convenient and cohesive manner. Such tests also help you to work on your child’s weaknesses and strengths which help in the wholesome development of the child.
Knowing your child’s aptitude before setting an expectation is imperative. We all need them to grow better and bigger, but where they want to be. It is pointless to have a child push towards something where he doesn’t belong to. So, know him well, before expecting.
Teach the way a child learns
I took the ICAN assessment with my daughter. The assessment has three sections. After answering all the questions, it sends you the report of the test. Once you get the report, you can go back to the platform where it provides you with various activities according to the learning style of your child. This was quite helpful as a child should be taught not in a way that we know but in a way that he/she learns and understands.
I sat with my youngest daughter and together we took a test which was on her personality and interest areas. I had assumed that I knew my daughter well. However, after taking the test, I realized that there are things about her that I never knew. Her good science scores made me assume that she was more curious by nature. It was a revelation that she was far better at interpretation and interaction.
Just to test the efficacy of the test, I invited my niece and sat with her. The nine-year-old girl’s test was more projective in nature. It presented a situation and asked her what she would do if she had the same options. The thirty-question set with two situations surprisingly brought out bang-on traits!
This is really something parents need today. Because why would we force a child to work for something he/she isn’t interested in? Wouldn’t it be better to have a glimpse of the options we have for our children and direct them accordingly? This platform by Aviva is definitely a step forward in this direction. I also liked the dream calculator available on your account that helps you understand the future cost of education, gave me a fair idea of how much I need to save.
